Takuya Nakamura at Subterranean on November 28 Since 1994, Subterranean has been a cornerstone of the Wicker Park live music & nightlife scene. Built in the 1890s, the historic structure at 2011 W North Avenue has a storied past, having once served as a brothel, a bathhouse, and as a wire room for gambling during the prohibition era. Owner Robert Gomez has worked hard to preserve the original features of the space that have been in place since the building’s creation and give Subterranean its one of a kind character, including the iconic Tiffany & brass chandelier that hangs above the dance floor.
