Aga Khan Master Musicians is a collective spanning traditions from the Mediterranean to Asia. The lineup: Wu Man is a world-leading player on the pipa (Chinese lute), Syrian-born Basel Rajoub has developed an entirely new repertoire for the saxophone, Feras Charestan is a master of the qanun (Middle-Eastern zither), Yurdal Tokcan is an authority on oud (Turkish lute), and Uzbek Abbos Kosimov is a virtuoso on the doira (Uzbek frame drum). They are joined by two eminent French musicians: accordionist, singer, and composer Vincent Peirani—whose work spans jazz, contemporary music, and improvisation—and Vincent Ségal, a renowned cellist and bassist.
The Aga Khan Master Musicians create music inspired by their own deep roots in the cultures of the Middle East and Mediterranean Basin, South Asia, Central Asia, and China.
